INSTRUCTIONS

We must provide a two page editorial spread for task 2. We are permitted to utilize small amounts of graphical content but neither photos nor color are permitted. Using Adobe InDesign to write and convey the text typographically, with the exception of Adobe illustrator being used to create the headline.

Text Formatting and Expression:

Fig 1.1 Layout sketch 1 (Week 6, 3rd oct 2022)

Fig 1.2 Layout sketch 2 (Week 6, 3rd oct 2022)

I started off with my skethes using 'follow the code' in Fig 1.1 i sketched the text coming from the left hand side horizontally joining the letters 'f ' and ' l '  followed by continuing a line from ' l ' straight to the right and from ' f ' straight downwards. Through feedback I decided to extend the arm all throughout till the next page so there will be a continuation.

Digital Exploration:

Fig 1.3 - Digitalized Exploration 1 (Week 6, 6th oct 2022)

I continued with the sketch used Futura std for the Headline and extensions, and Bembo std Regular for the paragraphs.

Fig 1.4 - Digitalized Exploration 2 (Week 6, 6th oct 2022)

For the second exploration I decided to extend the line following  the letter ' F ' and adjusted the last paragraph to move closer towards the line.

Fig 1.5 - Digitalized Exploration 3 (Week 6, 6th oct 2022)

For the final exploration I felt that there was a negative space on the bottom right corner so I decided to add an extra illustration with line followed by the text ' FOLLOW ' on it.

FEEDBACK

Week 6: General Feedback: The idea behind lines coming out of the two 'L's is nice but the choice of font could be better. Make sure that the margins between the main body columns are sufficient when you work in InDesign. Try to find a better balance for the position of each column.

Week 7: No feedback given.

Week 8: No feedback given.

REFLECTION

Experience: I was able to get knowledge of the laws and essential requirements of layout design via this experience. In addition, I was able to gain knowledge of the factors of how to construct a layout by making use of the abilities I got through my prior coursework. I found that coming up with fresh layouts while yet keeping to the fundamentals of typography was the most difficult task I had when designing. It was difficult since there was a cap on the number of images I can use; I had to learn to be satisfied with what I already have.

Observation: When it comes to constructing a layout and organising text, I've realised that each component needs to have an appropriate proportion of design to text in order to generate a satisfactory visual hierarchy. When planning and developing layouts, it is important to bear in mind the order in which information should be presented. Components also need to be in harmony with one another in order for the structure to be supported.

Findings: I learned about the texts spacing how it will be affecting the rest of the setances spacing when you do changes.
